Introducing SciWise

SciWise is a pioneering audience research initiative for organizations and events engaging public audiences with science. This initiative aims to broaden knowledge within science organizations around the world of factors that change the public's interests, attitudes and actions towards science.

SciWise Mission

The SciWise global mission is to facilitate collective improvement in science engagement and education practices for science organizations (e.g., science centers, observators, museums) and events (e.g., festivals, public outreach, dialogues). The initiative seeks to enable stakeholder participation using the best available practices and technologies in social science research and impact evaluation methods.

Impact Evaluation

The SciWise research initiative aims to build an understanding of how science-related experiences, attitudes and actions can change or develop for non-academic, public audiences as a result of science engagement activities. SciWise draws on the best available principles, methods and technologies to address address common constraints in social science research and impact evaluation (e.g. Jensen 2014).

SciWise objectives are made possible through expert-designed survey methodology, innovative research technology and standardized instruments for comparative analysis. Benchmarking can aid in discovery and distribution of best practices by providing points of comparison between other science organizations and events at regional, national and global levels. Comparisons are enabled by innovative research technology and based on standardized research instruments that capture audience profiles and science-related experiences and actions.
